NSS for Research

One of the main goal of NSS engineer is to bring a change in to society through technological intervention. NSS volunteer wants to apply their knowledge to solve problems in the society and wants to develop technology which could be environmental friendly and affordable to common man.
To achieve this goal, NSS volunteers of SRTTC took some live problems from the villages of maval region and tried to find solution for the same.

1. Watershed Management Plan for Village Nesave
Village Nesave is located in the remote area of taluka Maval of Pune district. This village faces water scarcity in the summer season. Wells and hand pumps become a dry in the month of March to May of every year due to depletion of water table.
Our volunteers visited village and study social, climatic, topographical conditions in consultation with Grampanchayat officials. At the end of study they prepared and submitted plan of comprehensive watershed management and also prepared 3D model of village which will give brief idea about various watershed management structures. Volunteers submitted this plan to Grampanchayat which consists of details of water shade management structures like its location., its cost. Gramphanchayt officials have assured to implement this plan to avoid future water scarcity.

2. Comprehensive Domestic Waste Water Management of village Kashal, Tal: Maval, Dist. Pune
During 7 day NSS Camp (Residential) organized at village Kashal, volunteers identified major problem in village is improper disposal of domestic waste water at 3 different sites which causing bad odour, mosquito formation, bad aesthetic view and unhygienic conditions. Also this causing ground water contamination.
To find out environment friendly and economical solution to this problem volunteers made village survey and determine population of village, daily water demand and waste water generated on daily basis. After that volunteers made physico chemical analysis of collected waste water. At the end of study volunteers came to conclusion that soak pit can be most favorable solution to this waste water disposal. Students designed 3 different soak pits for 3 different sites of waste water discharge which can avoid /minimize above mentioned problems of village.
